    by laguna_loire

It wasn't bad enough having the movies rammed down my throat, then the poxy special editions, and the stupid musical or whatever it was, now they have to salute a shitty overrated soundtrack!! I thank I'd rather suck diarrhea thru an old sock.

  • October 4, 2009 10:30 AM CST

    laguna_loire, are you insane?

    by dr sauch

How could this possibly inspire such vitriol? The movies were "rammed down your throat?" I can't begin to imagine how you accessed a computer to post this from the mental hospital you surely inhabit.

When the films were first released the sheer amount of ass-kissing that went on became a joke. If you posted even a remotely legible reason for not liking the films ANYWHERE, let alone here, you were torn-apart by saddo little fanboys who suddenly became instantly proficient in elvish or whatsoever overnight. If you even remotely "liked" the movies, you were burnt at the stake. I thought they ok, and most definately not my sort of thing. I took a lot of shit at the time (for a fairly reasonable argument asking WHY I should like something that I don't really think thats great, not that I SHOULD like it). And once again for that matter its proven that because I have an opinion I must be insane, or at least illiterate by your standards (whilst at least having the decency to just say "it sux duh!!). You're just as bad.

I'll make no excuse, Phantom Menace was severely underwhelming - but I kept my mouth shut at the time, as I felt the radical opinions of others, who felt that George Lucas had defecated on their childhood memories at least, repulsed me. I'm sorry, I'm not usually a controversial poster, something just struck a nerve I guess.

  • October 5, 2009 2:49 PM CST

    Why was TPM underwhelming?

    by lockesbrokenleg

At the time people were criticizing it because Lucas, God Forbid used computers to create effects. Hey fuckers, that's why we got the SW prequels in the first place!!!

your original rant connected the the LOTR fanaticism you didn't like to somehow disliking this concert. i was simply noting that it's pretty insane to freak out about some some concert will suck because you didn't like the fanatic reaction to the movies. but i can see that you were seriously and actually emotionally harmed by the LOTR and TPM releases, so i'll back off

    laguna_loire...

    by morGoth

...that's about the dumbest logic I ever heard. "Like" is an entirely subjective term. How can someone convince you to like something if it's "definately not my(your) sort of thing" to begin with? The truth is, I suspect, you wouldn't have liked LotR no matter the quality. Please, protest too much? I mean, how many of us love a movie that we know is stinko or despise a great movie because...here it comes...it's definetly not our thing? Do you mean that a movie can't be enjoyable for you unless you're already into the subject matter? Man, what a boring-assed Final non-Fantasy world you live in.

Show me a truly objective person and I'll show you the door...

Maybe its a question you should ask yourself - you had rants at plenty of people in the past, attacking them when they put up some pretty decent arguments. Damn, I wonder where you went!! Your posts had me in peels of laughter!!

  • October 6, 2009 7:51 AM CST

    That's just horse fudge laguna...

    by morGoth

...you know it, I know it. In fact, provide a TB archive example I "attacked" people for having a different opinion. I defended (still do) Jackson's effort and certainly acknowledge at least one or more rants, but I was only responding in kind to mindless trolling. Of course, I can't prove that either since all my post were deleted in the (shudder) Great Banning. But, yeah, there were surely others just as fanatical in their blind devotion to all things PJ and Tolkien (me excepted, of course).

Thank'ee kindly about the laughter part...always like to provide a larf or two. Say, what was your posting handle back then?

  • October 6, 2009 10:03 AM CST

    I'll maintain my stand....

by Damned if I can login

...as I always have. It's interesting how much backlash has been the result of an *opinion* that, in the scheme of things, is only important to ME!

So if anyone wants to say I'm trolling because I expressed a thought that doesn't jibe with rank and file (I was disappointed with LotR) well....that's an opinion too.

  • October 6, 2009 11:20 AM CST

    by laguna_loire

I saw a lot back then, and maybe there was trolling, but there was a lot of mindless attacking people with sensible opinions (in fact it even made a national newspaper when I come from - and LOTR was cited!!). At that time AICN may have become a nest for trollers, but a lot of valid, justified, reasons (mine included) were stamped on and bitten, just because we liked it, we didn't love it. I've always had the same handle, but I'm not an FF nut. The handle was chosen for me (by a friend) as at that time (and pretty much now!!) I look eerily like Laguna (that is, the artists illustrations - I don't have pixel hair!!). MorGoth, can I just say that you have passion for what you like, and that counts - too many opinions where "meh" is stated these days. If it counts (and proves I do have some substance), I saw Red Cliff part 1 last night, and loved it to bits!! Watching part 2 tonight.

  • October 7, 2009 8:13 PM CST

    Red Cliff part 1?

    by morGoth

How? My oldest morGette has seen bits of it and was wondering when it would be released in the USA. She was a bit bummmed when I told her there was, evidently, a single-movie, condensed version coming out. Are you in another country?

Hey, that's cool, I think folks should stand by their opinions and not be swayed one way or another by hype or, the inverse, blind franchise hatred. Lawks, some of the Star Wars fanatics were so hostile towards LotR (and Tolkien fans in general) before the first trailer or spoiler appeared that it really set me back a bit. Almost made me lose interest in the franchise but I realized it was just a disaffected few. Amazing that the concept of liking ANY genre can be so threatening to some. At any rate, call me out if you find me behaving in the manner you described when The Hobbit Talk Backs start reaching a frenzy {[:^)

  • October 7, 2009 8:20 PM CST

    Damned_if_I...

    by morGoth

...well, I was disappointed in some of LotR also. The character assasination of poor Gimli being the biggest. Nonetheless, I felt that paled in comparison to the magnificent whole.

Don't you at least think Jackson succeeded in getting across a rather complex story to the general unread masses? WHen I mention he won over the Joe Six-packs of the world, I speak from experience as I know and work with many J-s P's (one who is actually named Joe). He was actually concerned about "That Strider fellah." surviving the rest of the movie. Anyhoo, just curious and I'm not trying to pick a fight.

Sorry for the delay MorGoth. Red Cliff has been released on DVD here (the UK), in both incarnations. The second part is just as good as the first!!
