'nuff said. (and first.)
That should obviously read "You're tearing ME apart, Lisa." I suck.
You couldn't just be like "Look, you knew you thought you were making a good film and it's a fucking joke. Stop pretending that's what you intended."
Oh hi Mark.
Is this really "the opportunity of a lifetime"? Only in a post-ironic, hipster, nonsensical culture like this would this stupid phenomenon have any legs. The movie is awful. Tommy is an idiot. Why does anyone care?
I've seen this on a few (ok a lot) of lists claiming to contain "the worst movies ever made", with some placing this either right at or pretty near the top.
Is it worth the little bit of dough for the replay value? Or will I just end up breaking the disc after I finish watching it?
For christs sake....
Full of hipster boners who think its funny. But sitting at home watching the DVD I was just fucking bored and annoyed at home stupid it was.
This sort of idea of comedy works in like 10 minute segments like Tim and Eric Awesome show, but not for a fucking full hour and a half.
That being said Birdemic looks pretty fucking sweet.
I ask because the few clips I've seen look absolutely terrible.

Is it bonding over how terrible the film is? Is it subliminal? Why shoule I watch this movie in my home?
Been watching The Room for a couple years. It's always better to experience it with a crowd. If it's playing at theater near you give it a shot, it's a blast. Tommy, we need your presence at one of the screenings at the Uptown Theater in Minneapolis!

Barko, yes Tommy is an idiot in every way but one. The guy packaged an experience catering to a niche audience, and as much as it may be about at the heart of things separating them from their money, he looks in those clips to genuinely be having fun. They feed off each other. And no one there looks to be suffering from irony fatigue. It's just cheap fun with friends. Those that made a road trip just extended the cheap fun. Damn, see I'm my own best argument. I've never seen The Room and yet I just spent all that ink defending the experience. I gotta roll over to L.A. with a bunch of friends sometime and see this thing. Although, I'm pretty sure my argument will not have improved any.

Strong words Tommy!
It's bullshit! I did not hit her! I did NOT. Oh hi, Mark.
Thapone.
And that's, Ed Wood was born way too early.
I mean, I haven't seen it yet but I already know what to expect. And yes, seeing it at home alone is probably beyond torturous. I think you have to be a certain age to really get this. If you are old enough to remember Creature Features or Drive-in theaters, then you know what's happening here. This is part of the proud american tradition of finding some way to make unentertaining films entertaining. This is just Rocky Horror Picture Show Redux. We like our unintentional schlock. MST3K built a cottage industry around this concept. I say put this guy in the same space as Joel Hodgeson and Mike Nelson and watch the wackiness ensue.
there is entertainment value in rocky
the problem with rocky is that they chose not to change the pacing from the play...movies must have a quicker pace
the room is one giant mess....you watch it alone, and you want to blow your fucking brains out

I fucking hate hipster fucks who think they are being generous by mockingly praising various loons.
People think accolades account for shit but hey don't. Money is the only prize worth getting. Try paying your hospital bill with a fucking Audience Award from the Douchebag Cunt Film Festival.
when rocky came out in 75, there was nothing like it
up till that time, no one had attempted to make a rock and roll musical...one that dealt with the new openness of sexuality and was at its heart, a tribute to all the sci-fi and horror films that had come before
the music in the movie stands the test of time
since then, every gen has been looking for its own rocky horror, and has misplaced that excitement into what are just bad films
so you get geeks rushing to troll 2 and the room...neither of which is good...its just that they are so bad, entertainment value is found in the audiences
and tommy fuckface didnt intend on making a comedy...his embracing those that goof on him just keeps his sorry ass on the film geek circuit
why arent you people embracing someone like emily hagens, who is indeed one of you, and at 12 made by what all accounts is a superior movie to that pos the room

I have ever seen.
It's funny how I don't know where he came from. I've met him once at a "Room" screening. My friend kept on saying he's French but he doesn't even sound French. I voted Eastern European...maybe German.
This IS the interview from which all interviews will be judged. I... James Dean would suggest that Johnny be nude? WTF???
Agreed, definitely Eastern European. Personally I lean toward Austrian, based purely on comparison between Tommy's accent and Arnold's. The tricky thing about pinning him down is, how much of his accent comes from his birthplace and how much comes from mental illness?
For real: I don't get it. Tim and Eric on Adult Swim devoted an entire episode to this guy and this movie and I kept waiting for it to get funny and it never did--and I am talking Tim and Eric funny standards, which are not especially high.
It's bad but it's consistently bad. Consistent in its lack of story, etc. If it were avant garde art it would be brilliant. It's just so compelling but in a very weird way. And I'm glad Wiseau's a nice guy. I liked him after I watched The Room. Really did.
I have to say... this is the highlight of my week. Thank you Capone... wow. I love this thing.
It's a bad movie.
the room is not.. enough said
I laughed hysterically and repeatedly throughout. Troll 2, not a single laugh or smile.
This guy is such a grade a delta bravo. People really need to stop paying attention to him so he'll go away.
no words - should have sent a poet
Damn, no mention of his "appearance" on Marc Wootton's La La Land... it was hilarious! "I'm an American director, don't underestimate me, man!"

Cause theres a lot of stupid people that need to be cleansed from the face of the earth. This shitbag makes Ed Wood look like a visionary. If theres a hell,I hope you retards spend eternity locked in "The Room" with this annoying douchebag jackass of a wannabe director...fuck you all!
I live in LA and was dragged to a midnight showing of this over a year ago, where it seemed that the entire populations of Silverlake and Weho had turned out for one giant, sarcastic laugh at this guy's expense. It wasn't funny - it was a communal bashing, whereupon everyone there seemed to think that THEY were the height of hilarity. The worst part is that it's played into this guy's obvious mental instability and turned him into the bad movie version of William Hung. Har-de-fucking-har. Folks like Paul Rudd, Kristen Bell and David Cross are the ones who started this sham, and they should really be ashamed. It was a shitty joke that just gets worse the longer it goes on.
And all these hipsters telling him how great his movie was is just making it worse. Sooner or later, all you ironic cool dudes will turn your backs on him and glom onto the next post-modern cultural meme, and he'll probably go into a deep depression. Thanks a bunch, Paul Rudd.
its like reading those spam mails thwt are compiled out of novel excerpts, movie reviews and shopping lists.
...is that he was one of the first people to start this little hipster cult, yet when Entertainment Weekly ran a story on it last year, he declined to be interviewed and said that he "didn't want to mock someone else's work." Which of course is all the hypocritical douchebag has been doing for the past several years. Way to be spineless, Rudd. At least Wiseau's awful film is more watchable than HALLOWEEN 6.
Obviously that douchebag screening has skewed your perspective, but you don't have to be mean to be truly perplexed and enchanted by the man and his work.
that friends look to inflict on other friends in order to peer pressure them in to liking something. As long as its seen in a huge ensemble where people appear to be having a good time, everybody will affirm the lie that said movie is worth two shits. Nobody wants to be That Guy that finds fault in something all their friends are affirming, especially when they're being ganged up on. Beyond that, you have the usual PR stuff like having celebrities affirm to start off the cycle of affirmation in combination with planted lies that can't be disproven(oh.. Paul Rudd has this DVD by his bed), and in general a stench that emanates from it basically being more smoke and mirrors than actual substance. But hey, long story short.. if this is how a fanbase numbering less than 4 digits gets their kicks, and they have fun in the process... kudos.
so you know the type of movie I mean.
Pink Flamingos.
Loosen the fuck up. Really. No one is saying this man is a genius. No one is saying it's a good film. It's something to do with your friends that's fun. Is that okay? Or do i have to check with the "I'm too cool to be engaged in a communal atmosphere" crowd? So it's okay to go to a midnight screening of Rock Horror but not this? Why? Because one of you decided that you can't have a midnight cult following of a bad movie passed 1975? Gee, I didn't know there was a moritorium on enjoying bad movies with friends. And by the way, that's whay there are midnight showings of Rocky Horror. It's because people go to make fun of a BAD MOVIE. Don't delude yourself that it's about anything else just because it came about before pop culture went into overdrive. But thanks for not letting anybody just laugh at a bad movie there, fun police.
It was fun to laugh at short youtube clips of some dialogue, but this isn't really a so bad it's good kind of movie. Now Troll 2 is that movie. The Room is just Cinemax porn without the porn (for the most part).
Yes, this movie is so bad it's funny. But what's brilliant about this guy other than his enigmatic attitude? Nothing he says in the interview makes sense.
That's what I want to know

And never even said WTF the movie was about. I read at least half of that article with that one question in mind. Is this movie any good? WTF is it about? Instead all I got was pages and pages of OMG this movie is so good and people love it, for years. I never heard of it.
You've been awesomely misinformed. It's not at all a good movie. That's why people are going to see it. It's so bad, it's entertaining by default.
Now the movie makes perfect sense. Why didn't capone just ask him during the interview whether the film was made to hide profits from a Slavic sex slave trade cartel or Lithuanian Organ harvesting? And why didn't you ask? Because the infield fly rule shouldv'e been called on that interview. Can of corn, guy.
This movie is for anyone who loves bad movies.
I don't think he gave a single straight answer besides the times he just said "correct". Other than he was basically unintelligible.
And it was the first time I'd seen it with a crowd. The film is amusing with a group of friends and a few drinks just because of its WTF factor but the screening was just way too mean spirited. As one person above said, everyone there thought they were the height of the hilarity. That totally nails it. It's not even that I feel bad for Tommy because the whole crowd is laughing at him. He knows the drill by now. It was just obnoxious. The most entertaining way to watch the movie is with someone who's never seen it before. And not in a theater with a crowd full of d-bags trying to shout over one another.

You COULD go on thinking people have been hoodwinked into pretending The Room is something that it's not simply due to peer pressure (sort of like Titanic) but, in this case, you'd be 100% wrong. I 'love' the movie, own the DVD and have taken friends to midnight screenings. Of the newcomers, about 50% simply find it boring, annoying and immediately forget about the thing. The other half see comedy gold mined by a writer, director and lead who, despite an earnest effort to craft a love-story, is sunk by his complete misunderstanding of cinema and lack of any discernable skill. Every choice is wrong and this thing fantastically collapses in on itself in almost every scene. Some people enjoy it and some don't. But don't be naive enough to pretend people who find it funny do so because they want to ‘fit in.’. It's insulting (and completely inaccurate).
