Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with this week's selection of shorts I think you might have a solid time watching. This week we have five shorts lined up, and there seems to be a theme for the most part - one about new relationships. While I've been unnable to stay at the pace I maintainted for five (5?) years by posting weekly, if you're here and you're reading this - well, stick around and give each project a chance. I've had the grand opportunity of meeting some truly talented individuals who have had films featured here, and a few of them pop up in today's lineup. Regardless, whatever genres you find yourself into - I hope you simply have a chance to kick back, and see what folks from around the world are creating (some with money - some with none). There's a healthy serving of talent below, so strap on in and go on a few rides, eh?

WHEN YOUR DATE HATES STAR WARS

Let's kick this party off with a parody piece from the folks at XVP Comedy. It just feels right that a sketch like this should be screened here at AICN. Provided this would have been the perfect May The 4th video to share, I dropped the ball. "When you find out the person you're dating hates Star Wars it's like taking a light saber right to the gut! Seriously though...who the hell hates Star Wars?! Only people who haven't seen it, I bet! Unless they have seen it...and then they're just crazy. Anyway, may the 4th be with you!" Next up is a film from the Netherlands with Filmmaker Elwin Rijken. "A divorced woman spends an evening with her new fling on a second date. Together they start to reveal their deepest secrets." This is certainly a bizarre film that goes in a direction you can't really call from the get-go. Solid short. Check out Elwin's website, and be sure to look at his illustrations (they're batshit awesome!). I can't wait to see what Elwin brings next!
BEATZ - "AIN'T YOUR GIRL"

Our next video comes to us from Director James Chappell, out of Australia. Any chance I get to embed one of his videos, I take. His latest is for a band called "Beatz." "In this dark and twisted 'Toddlers and Tiaras' three young girls are held captive and forced into hard labour by a cruel and callous machiavillian overlord. They are soon visited by a supernatural trio of strong powerful women who show them how to break free and reclaim their independance." There's something very unsettling with this one, rather dark. I'm a fan of what James does and if this is your first viewing of one of his videos... do yourself the solid of watching some of his work for Broadhurst over on his website!

Next up is a comedy from Brendan Hughes that explores the world of interns! I remember the joy of interning for the _____ Film Society back in college, on top of being a full time student and working 40 hour weeks at a pizza place. That desire to succeed - to do work to hopefully get you one step closer to doing what you love for the rest of your life - easily something shady folks can exploit. Happens every day. I simply couldn't wrap my head around why folks wouldn't wash their own dishes after dirtying them and in what way they found it acceptable to make that a task for interns. Horrible example, but especially in the film world - boy is it easy to get taken advantage of. Paid Internships, wildly different story. It's fun to see what Hughes has done here and I have no doubt there will be some trolls popping up for this one. ("Snowflakes" etc...) I found this film rather enjoyable. "First-time director Brendan Hughes offers up a short about revenge, corporate greed and why you don't piss on the little people. Brendand is half of the comedy duo from the Dad Jeans Podcast." Director Nicholas Payne Santos, along with Bullmoose Pictures, has a solid Drama to slam the door shut this week. "A teenage boy’s relationship with a girl changes forever after an encounter with her step-father. What starts out as flirting between a young, interracial couple, turns into a dangerous game when they break into a seemingly abandoned house." The film has a pretty cool behind-the-scenes video if after watching it, you want to see how the shoot went! It's a story I can only imagine through films like this, very informative and rather moving. Be sure to check out Nicholas's website to see what else he's got going on!
