Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. We saw a whole lot in that first trailer for Ready Player One. From Freddy Krueger to the Iron Giant to our favorite time traveling DeLorean, but there are a few key figures we didn't see. First and foremost is the Willy Wonka of this particular story, the mysterious James Halliday (played by Mark Rylance), but a close second in terms of importance to the story is Art3mis, a female player and partner in crime for our lead.
Empire has debuted a good shot of Art3mis, played by Olivia Cooke who is a great up and comer that really turned my head with her work on Bates Motel, and Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan). Check it out below:
From broad use of color to the weird sci-fi subject matter, I can't shake an A.I. vibe from this thing and that, my fellow Spielberg fans, is what makes me most excited about this project. I know that won't trigger the same feeling from everybody, but it tells me that Spielberg is breaking out of his comfort zone and when that happens you get magic. And sometimes a trainwreck (lookin' at you 1941), but with someone as talented as Steven Spielberg, even his trainwrecks have magic in them.
