Precious Roy here with big sequel news: Edgar Wright is apparently already working on the script for BABY DRIVER 2! Dark Horizons reports that the sequel is being fast-tracked and that Wright is currently writing it.
Wright told Entertainment Weekly, “Those talks are already in the works. The deal is being hammered out as we speak. So, hopefully, I’m going to at least write a second one. I’ve definitely got lots of ideas. Whether it’s the next movie, I don’t know. I’m just working that out at the moment, actually. I have a couple of things that I’ve been developing, and also a couple of new ideas that I had, and all the nice things that I’ve been offered since [the release of Baby Driver. I would like to get back (in) the saddle very shortly, because – slightly beyond my control – but there (were) four years between The World’s End and Baby Driver. I don’t want it to be that long again. I would love to have a film out in the next two years.”
BABY DRIVER was filmed in Atlanta and parts of Northern Georgia, which was likely a part of how the film was financed. With Baby now free and leaving Atlanta for parts unknown, it’s unclear what will come next… perhaps a long drive through parts of Alabama that look suspiciously like the set of THE WALKING DEAD.
Wright’s quote seems reluctant to confirm that the script he is writing is, in fact, the one TriStar Pictures will definitely shoot as BABY DRIVER 2. Given his experience on ANT-MAN, this is understandable (and sage), as Wright may be waiting to see if they will hire him to direct, and give him the control necessary to do his script justice. Here’s hoping TriStar does the smart thing and lets him run with it all the way to the bank.
