New Director for "Scary Stories to tell in the Dark"

Hey Everyone, Freddy Beans here.
While it’s never good news when Guillermo Del Toro backs out of a directing gig, when he’s replaced by Andre Ovredal you won’t find me complaining.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, a trilogy of books by Alvin Schwart,is  being made into cinema at CBS films.  Guillermo Del Toro was originally signed on as director but is now co-producing the film. Andre Ovredal is signed on to direct now.  This couldn’t have been easy for Guillermo as he loves this book series and collects original art works by Stephen Gammel the illustrator.   If you haven’t seen Stephen Gammel’s artwork before and you dig horror in it’s many forms….You’re welcome.
If you aren’t sure who Andre Ovredal is, or what he’s done, you need to check out Trollhunter (2010) and The Autopsy of Jane Doe.(2016)  Both are excellent movies that did amazing things with what didn’t’ seem like very large budgets. Andre has a sure hand in both of the movies, which he directed
Andre wrote and directed ‘Troll Hunter’ which is a fun mockumentary (sorry, secret’s out) about a group seeking actual living troll’s.  It shouldn’t work, but it does, and wonderfully so.  Some of the action scenes I wanted to re-watch over and over as they were so unique in vision.  I can honestly say I haven’t seen anything like Troll Hunter, while I waited for a sequel to come out, he instead surprised me with his next one.
‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe’ was certainly an evolution of his talents.  What starts out as a standard murder mystery; typical forensic scientist team sifts through clues on a dead body.  Said clues lead  to solving dead bodies murder.  That's merely the introduction.  This one  turns into so much more.  When Jane Doe is opened up before us and there’s symbolic writing singed on the inside of her skin, leading to loud knocks at the door, then lights flickering, oh yeah, I’m hooked.  Really great film I don’t’ feel got its due credit or audience.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark sounds like a sure winner.  The series follows a bunch of dark and sudden murders in a small town that a group of kids must solve.  The timing of this series couldn’t be better what with the success of “it” and “Stranger Things” recently.   I’m already chomping at the bit to see this one as I love me some horror.  Add in Andre Ovredal and I know this will have his signature individuality sewn throughout.
Til next time Kids
