Rambo is gonna fight the Cartels at the Border!

Hey Everyone Freddy Beans here,

With some exclusive RAMBO V news out of SCREENDAILY.COM

After reading that, RAMBO V news out of CANNES sounds like a given.  That’s a perfect storyline too right?  Comes across to me as a weird hybrid of UNFORGIVEN crossed with COMMANDO vibe.   Child sex trafficking ring run by a ruthless crime lord John Rambo must destroy in order to save a friends granddaughter?  I’m in!

This news actually got me excited for another RAMBO and I wasn’t clamoring for the 2008 RAMBO I just ended up really liking it despite myself.

Anyone else care to see the ageless Sylvester Stallone kick some ass out there?

FIRST BLOOD is the first R rated film I was allowed to watch.  By allow, I mean my World War II vet grandfather insisted I watch it with him while my parents were out with grandma.  It blew my mind and made me think at the time that only the good movies got that hard R rating.  Right away I rooted for the long haired hippie personally escorted out of town.  I loved his bold about face to walk back into town after that drive.  The rest of the movie is a cat and mouse play with RAMBO toying with those insisting on hunting him down.  In the end Rambo’s world is encapsulated by his best line in the movie “They drew first blood, not me!”  Indeed they did and I bet they regretted doing so.

Rambo: First Blood Part II was one of those iconic films.  I remember this one as much of an event film as E.T. at the time.  It took weeks visiting the video store at odd hours to rent the tape in that first year and they had more copies of that film than any before it.  I know time hasn’t been kind to this one, but I love it for its willingness to be ridiculous.  It is what it is, you either enjoy it for being popcorn fare like TEMPLE OF DOOM or you laugh it off and insist on watching THE GODFATHER.

RAMBO III is a lot like part two, it’s stylized nonsense that is a damn fun ride.  Would I recommend it?  No, not unless like me, you were a lover of the world already set forth in the original and its sequel.  You kids don’t realize how spoiled you have it.  This is what a great battle looked like on screen in the 80’s.  Hah

RAMBO the fourth in the series is a return to the gritty action I preferred in the original FIRST BLOOD.  It works really well, like I said I wasn’t wanting another Rambo.  I felt they’d already trod all the ground they could.  Maybe stopping a step from jumping the shark.  I was wrong and it was a lot of fun to see Sylvester still doing his thing at 85 or however old the eternal wonder actually is.   (I kid Sly, may we all look half as good as you at 71)
I am looking forward to this grittier version being told here with the Mexican sex/drug trafficker.  I’ll buy my ticket alone, my grandfather is gone but I will see this one in the theaters with him in mind.

Til next time Kids
