The MULAN live action movie steadily gets closer as time beats on, yet is still so far away. We won’t be seeing it until 2020. Pre-production is in full swing as another actor has joined the cast, Jason Scott Lee! Lee is perhaps best known for his role as Bruce Lee in THE BRUCE LEE STORY, he was also a young Mowgli in the 1994 live-action adaptation of THE JUNGLE BOOK. Lee will be taking on the role of the villainous Bori Khan, a warrior leader who is intent on avenging his father's death. He will act alongside Gong Li as antagonists.
Lee will be joining lead actress Liu Yifei and IP MAN’S Donnie Yen. Jet Li has been cast as the emperor… I hope he gets a goofy looking long pointy beard like the cartoon version, that would be fun.
Niki Caro of THE ZOOKEEPER is directing. It was reported back in May that Disney is dropping a whopping $290 million on the project.
This growing cast of great stars raises hopes for the live action MULAN. The source content is good, the actors are good, crew from THOR RAGNAROK are building the set. There is very little space for Disney to screw this up. Just please don’t let this be a shot for shot live action adaptation like BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Will this be a harsh war story, or a padded princess story of songs full of auto-tune? I’m really hoping for the former.
Look out for MULAN March 27th, 2020!
