Attention, cocksuckers:
Rejoice, and look on in wonder, for pictures of the new DEADWOOD movie have dropped on Entertainment Weekly!
Fans of the series have been waiting 12 YEARS for the return of their HBO favorite, after it was abruptly shelved in 2006 amid budget concerns. Series creator David Milch has quite openly talked about his regrets over never giving the epic storyline its proper ending. Now it looks as though he will get his wish.
Al Swearengen, of course, played by Ian McShane, doesn't look a day older. Which puts me in the mind of a quote from Jack Langrishe, played by Brian Cox in the last season of Deadwood. When Swearengen quipped "you're lookin good, Jack," he replied: "Thanks! It's the learning absolutely fucking nothing at all that does it." It's devoutly to be hoped that Swearengen has not changed, either.
Whereas Timothy Olyphant as Seth Bullock totally has a silver fox thing going on:
The movie brings the principal characters of DEADWOOD back together after 10 years, to celebrate South Dakota's statehood. In addition to Swearengen and Bullock, the movie promises the return of Alma Ellsworth (Molly Parker), Trixie the whore (Paula Malcomson), Sol Star (John Hawkes), Calamity Jane (Robin Weigert), Charlie Utter (Dayton Callie), Doc Cochran (Brad Dourif), E.B. Farnum (William Sanderson), Joanie Stubbs (Kim Dickens) and Martha Bullock (Anna Gunn). Hearst (Gerald Rainey) has not gone away, although apparently Jack Langrishe (Brian Cox) has.
Of course, in the intervening time, we lost Powers Boothe and Ralph Richeson, who played Cy Tolliver and Richeson, respectively. So pour one out or raise some antlers to your gods for these two, whichever is your preference.
Daniel Minahan, who directed four episodes in the original series, directs the feature film from a script by series creator David Milch. Details are scarce, but W. Earle Browne, who plays Dan Dority, calls the script "f*cking thrilling and f*cking heartbreaking," which sounds good to us. No release date has been set, but a release is rumored around the end of 2019.
What do you think, hoopleheads? I'm using this as an excuse to rewatch all 3 seasons! And revisit the wisdom of Al!
