Fabulous season thus far
by Charlie Murphy

each episode has been great, if not fantastic, although i must admit a smidge of disappointment that kara is back to her weird, brooding self. when she returned at the start of the year she was smiling and happy... hopefully we'll see her that way again. also, with all this talk that they'll find earth sooner than we think, i'm guessing starbuck gets there before the break into 2009... probably that'll be the cliffhanger. i wonder if the cylons are going to end up destroying themselves by the end of the series? maybe the ones that live will join the fleet like athena and live happily ever after. maybe the big twist of the show is the fleet arrives on earth 2,000 years ago and humans mate with cylons through the ages and maybe me or you could be part cylon. DUN DUN DUN... i'll shut up now.

You seriously must be joking, Holodigm. The invisotext is the weakest bunch of non-spoiler BS I've ever read on this website. I hope the new episode is good, but if this is all it has to offer, we've all seen the entire worth of the episode in last weeks "next week on Galactica" promo.

Borrowing continues in this episode. Not just talking about Nana Visitor. All next weeks episode is missing is Vic Fontaine. Still amazing though. This week and beyond, they really start getting the lead out. By the end of the next episode you will start saying WTF? (In a good way). Promos are WAY TO SPOILERY.

I realize that your a big fan of LOST and BSG. But constantly comparing the two, episode for episode, doesn't really seem to achieve much. They are vastly different shows, telling very different stories, in very different ways.

Personally, I want both to be outstanding; all the damn time. But each show is on a different path and pace. I'm not going to judge one or the other because it's in a different gear. Both shows are moving along and like I said last week, I think BSG is getting ready to 'splode.

grrrrr that was less an 8 minutes of a preview. It is only the precredit intro which only shows what was in the trailer (and like 1 minute more) and the credits with preview scenes which don't show anything that we didn't already see in the trailer.

"You are the harbinger of death, Kara Thrace. You will lead them all to their end". Very similar to what the Hybrid said in Razor. Just slightly different. The Hybrid in Razor called her the harbinger of the Apocalypse, who will lead humanity to it's doom. This version we heard tonight could have a different meaning. Could the statement have something to do with Roslin's death, and Starbuck leading humanity to its end goal; finding Earth? Also of note:The Hybrid we saw in Razor is male. The Hybrid we've seen throughout the regular series is female. I wonder if that has any significance?

... when someone says something completely ludicrous. In fact, it was so ludicrous, I didn't even spell check, because the and should be any and it should be cheesetastic, but I digress.

Seriously, Galactica is one of the top-ten television dramas of ALL TIME. The cinematography is beautifully shot. The writing is top-notch. The acting is superb. Galactica is like a fine wine. Galactica is like prosciuto-wrapped-mozzarella. It's refined. It's the Frasier of television dramas. Meaning it's smarter than most any show ever made.

Stargate is like velveeta. Yeah, it tastes okay, but it's empty calories. It doesn't do the job in giving you any nutrition. You take in too much Stargate, and your brain goes to mush, like if you eat too much velveeta, your body goes to mush. Stargate LOOKS like it's shot in Canada, with the just a little off look to the way it's shot that's not quite what we're used to in America. Kind of like the way Xena and Hercules always looked.

Galactica, however, is cinematic. It's large scale. Stargate is small potatoes, and the writing is laughable at its best, and down right groan inducing at its worst.

Remember the reason why Ron Moore wanted to do Galactica? He said he wanted to do SciFi the RIGHT way, because so many SciFi shows were doing it the wrong way. If you don't think he was talking about the Stargate shows, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.

Galactica is high class living. Stargate is a double-wide in the redneck, mullet, and jort capital of the world, Gainesville, FL.

Need I say anything more?

You are TOTALLY correct, of course - but I make an effort to not insult other fandoms. Comparing them though - like our Sweep has taken upon himself to do - is bad fandom manners. It's not fair to compare series. Like B5 had much more humour than BSG but less than Farscape. That's silly and unfair. I'm sorry that 'Sweep' doesn't think that BSG meets his standards - but his spouting off about it in a BSG thread is just *asking* for trouble. And P.S. - I make a kick-ass Velveeta Mac and Cheese.

Mark my words.

but, it's to bad that they have to pad the season to make the 22 episode order... I think it would be far better if they did the HBO style 13 episode run per year. It would make the narrative MUCH tighter and keep the suspense amped. For example, was last week's episode even necessary? I would say no... but this week's episode certainly moved the story forward. Great series even if the seasons are too long.

A recent interview with the writer of last week's episode revealed that it had been edited all to hell. And the entire 'opening scene' from this week's episode? It was supposed to be included in last weeks. Also, he stated that two of the Helo/Athena scenes were cut. I know it doesn't make 'The Road Less Traveled' BETTER - but the script was righteous. Six: "I couldn't let it go. On New Caprica..."

Natalie: "She was the one?"

Six: "I never did anything to her. We were working at the water treatment plant and she just..."

Natalie: "I know. I remember. After you downloaded, we tried to work through this."

Six: "How do you work through something like this? I never forgot her expression as I tried to scream. She just...slapped tape over my mouth, and threw me in that septic tank. I still see her face when I try and sleep. We were trying to help thse people!"

Natalie: "I know. I know. I wish there was something I could do."

Six: "Then I'm glad it's you."

You'd hate European cinema then. Frequently people don't face consequences for their actions, in fact sometimes you get to the end of the film and the aggrieved party never even finds out *who* was responsible. I suppose at some point though Tyrol will find out - this may be more radical storytelling than the usual North American fare but not so radical as to leave that big a plot line dangling. However, I have to support Tory as she's an Indian. Even though us Sri Lankans, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Indians war incessantly amongst ourselves, we have to unify against our common enemies and that includes the British Empireand the Yanqui Imperialists (Most of our countries in the subcontinent have historically been in the Communist Bloc). I guess that now includes the American-Capricans and Canadian Capricans as well. Plus Cally was a bit annoying.

I LOVE European cinema and while I live in NYC, I'm not American - funny how you accuse me otherwise.

That I want to see Tory torn to pieces by rabid dogs is not an uniquely American thing. It's human nature. I *know* it may not happen, but that doesn't make me want it any less.

Was referring to Tory (well the actress to plays her) in relation to Cally and the rest of the Galactica crew (who are clearly mostly Americans and Canadians). Just an observation that even though most of our countries are at war in this region, we leave it at home and unite against our common enemy overseas, which is usually all those white caucasian types who complain about the food at our local Bangladeshi run Indian restautant. As for yourself, obviously this being 'internets' I wouldn't have a clue where you are let alone anything else and I wouldn't pretend otherwise ...

If anyone needed solace over the cancellation, they need only watch this year to get closure. Waiting for what happens next has as much payoff as which chump wins on Hollywood Squares. The whole story line has long since exhausted itself, hopelessly lost in a aimless labyrinthe of "who cares?". The characters are tired, compromised, and unrelatable. The actors just going through the motions. The punishment for waiting for what most likely will be a Sopranos like Mehnding, is wading through this meaningless drivel. The Toasters need to finish all these sad soapy cymen and end their misery.

Seeing Gaeta got shot redeemed last weeks slower episode. Anyone who says this week was "filler" is certifiably insane. We discovered the Final Five are from Earth ffs. That leads to all sorts of questions like, JUST HOW OLD ARE THEY? There were some great moments too. Apparently "filler" now covers a Cylon-Human alliance, discovering the Final Five are from Earth, Anders discovering Xena knows who he and the others are, Roslin being taken in by Baltar, and so forth, in the minds of the extraordinarily retarded. If that's "filler" then let's hope every week is this fillerific.

... are from the home of the 13th. Does that mean the 13th Colony or an unknown 13th Cylon who may or may not be from Earth. The probable explanation is that yes, it is saying the Final Five are from Earth but there is narrative wriggle room there. After all, the way they were using numbers/at different times they referred to differnt things in the same sentence - the '3' (referring to Unit 3 - not 3 people) will know the '5' (as in final five).

The parts with Roslin were the slowest I thought. I usually don't mind them but the action onboard Demetrius and the basestar was too exciting.

Anders is my favorite of the final five because he's so hilariously clueless. lmao @ him about to try and use the Cylon computer, I wonder what would have happened.

And word to what someone else said about how the Cylons are gonna be like 'wtf' when they find out who the Final Five are and that they're even more clueless than everyone else. Anders had that "...shit" look on his face when he heard them talking about reviving Xena to find the Final Five who allegedly know where Earth is.

ALSO. WTF @ KARA BEING TOLD SHE'S THE HARBINGER OF DEATH AND NOT REACTING IN ANY WAY. *EVERYONE* heard that and they're all acting as happy as can be that the plan worked out and they're headed back to the rendevous?! WTF? It's like they just ignored it as more nonsense.

The reason it feels slow
by There Are Twelve Models
May 10th, 2008
11:37:18 AM
The reason people are complaining the show is "slow" is because the writers/editors/whomever have drastically cut back on the number of storylines followed each week. In previous seasons we used to cut between the President/Adama, Baltar and his shenanigans, the flight deck, and whatever the plot needed every episode. Now we're lucky to get Baltar's voiceover in a radio broadcast for any indication of what's happening there. I presume this is intended to save money. If you haven't noticed a difference, you should feel happy because your enjoyment of the show has not decreased.

Geada's leg was incredibly graphic as well. He always irritated me anyway. Serves his smug ass right. Your assessment of last night's episode is spot on. It was rich with details and new turns. For me, a few stand out.

It's cool to see the Hybrid still at the center of things showing the way. Her comment about the "seventh node" being restored might well refer to the 7th Cylon (could be a stretch, but I wonder).

Anders displayed the super strength of the Final Five (mentioned previously by Tory)when he took on a Six.

The Centurion's natural vigilance in protecting the Hybrid possibly shows a centurion-Hybrid connection with much more depth than previously thought. Just a thought.

Or maybe I do - this *is* the XBox generation. No one has patience for dramatic development any more - half the time I think what's wanted is to find earth, cure/kill off Roslin, marry off all the characters and have six space battles to boot in THIS WEEK'S EPISODE. I'm flabbergasted because this season has been consistently as good - no better - as this show has ever been. It will be criminal if McDonnell doesn't at least get an Emmy nomination for her work in season 4.

Can we stop blaming the editors, please?
by ScoobySnack
May 10th, 2008
03:23:26 PM
Those of you making that complaint have no clue about how the post-production process works on a scripted series. Yes, the editors do have an artistic impact on the pacing and geography of a scene, and in rare cases, can even define the look of a series--much like the editor of the pilot episode of 24 came up with the idea of the split-screens. But it is NOT the editor's choice to decide what scenes go into an episode... that's the PRODUCER's call. So, if you want to blame anyone for why certain scenes aren't in certain episodes, point your fingers at RDM. As the showrunner, it's HIS call, and ALWAYS his call. And you really can't blame him so much, either... we now live in a world where "one-hour" episodes are only 40 minutes minus credits because of all the mind-numbing commercials we're forced to sit through. Star Trek TOS episodes are 52 minutes by comparison, meaning we've lost 12 minutes of story in the last forty years of TV, thanks to network greediness. So, stop blaming the editors for decisions they can't make.
That was a GREAT episode.

But all will be resolved soon, and I'm sure it will make all this drawn-out filler shit the producers are lazily inflicting on taste-endowed, educated viewers such as myself all the sweeter (not you, of course...I'm sure if Admiral Adama stopped mid-sentence and armpit-farted the original series' theme song, it would be the high point of your week. That scene with the Six was a blatant Iraq metaphor. As in, we've come to help these people and yet they're attacking us - yet completely missing the point that first we reduced Iraq to rubble and killed thousands of them in the process. Sadly, there are people in real life who don't get it as evidenced by the talking heads on Fox just for starters who say the exact same thing about Iraq (as 6 said about New Caprica in the fictional context of the show).

I have steadfastly loved this show for three seasons and praised the genius of Ron Moore (with some exception at the episode where Kara died).

But this season is just filled with all the contrivances of mediocre television. Characters are being forced by story, not by who they are. I'm beginning to think Ron Moore is not so sure what to do when there is a goal post looming on the horizon.

Pretty much nothing has happened this season thus far that couldn't have been worked out in two episodes. And previously it would have. Now, they have to stall because they can't go too fast or otherwise they'll past their ending they've laid out.

If the spoilers floating around, we're heading towards a REALLY big contrivance to force two characters together and it just does not sound like Galactica.

Original (Caprica) Six is in the Galactica Brig, as best as we can tell. The one who died talked about working in a waste treatment plant on New Caprica. Since Caprica Six was shagging Baltar and basically being "first lady", we can assume she wasn't working in a waste treatment plant and thus not the Six who died in this episode.

Good idea about what should be done to wrap the show up. In addition to the remaining 14 episodes, a Razor-style TV movie would work -- better yet, a few Razor style movies (i.e. a series of BSG Two Hour TV Specials) -- to properly complete the saga.

The local paper here had an interview with Edward Olmos in Friday's paper where he said that the four didn't even know their characters were going to be Cylons and Michael Hogan (Tigh) was very angry when he saw he was a Cylon.

I read that Ronald Moore re-thought the final direction of the show with the extra time he had on his hands during the writer's strike. So you may get your wish.

BTW BSG does use alot of film references/borrows from movies which have been discussed in these TBs before. Take In-Head Six/Baltar for example. I see similarities to Oda Mae/Sam in GHOST (minus the romance) in the way Sam enabled her to solve and tackle problems.

Apparently the story goes that Aaron Douglas saw some script pages lying about and stole them. After reading them in the nearest toilet, he found out he was a Cylon 3 months before he was supposed to. The article didn't say whether he found out about the others though.

If Survivor can have a full three hour finale, why not BSG?!

So many great moments. Anders almost touching the Cylon datastream, the 6 execution, Kara's rush to help Gaeta.

I find it interesting that Baltar's religion is Christian-esque, while his image of 'crossing the river' is straight out of Greek mythology. The River Styx and Charon, anyone? They even use the word 'ferry.' I love that this tension between God and Gods is more than just between monotheism and polytheism, but between old and new cultures, between casual agnosticism and devout belief. Loved Nana Visitor's cameo with that.

I find it funny that actors would be angry that they've been given something incredibly interesting and conflicting to play. Frankly, I don't buy it. You know that at least the actors playing Anders and Tori were thanking the gods for making their characters infinitely more interesting. But even Chief and Tigh have some incredible stuff to play with this Final Five thing.

Not sure about that, but this interview said...

Q. If you know who the final Cylon model is, I'm sure you can't tell me...

A. I don't know, either. And no one knew when (the other four were revealed.) You should have seen what happened. There was anger. Real anger. The main one was Michael Hogan (who plays Colonel Tigh.) He just couldn't get past it. He said, "I didn't sign up for this kind of stuff." He was so hurt he was a Cylon.

I saw that interview too which you are quoting. Later on Aaron Douglas was telling that story about actually knowing he was a Cylon 3 months in advance because he stole a script lying around and read it in a bathroom. It may not be true but it was a fairly funny story. And for all we know, all of these stories about the cast's reaction to being made Cylons could be an elaborate joke on our part. Even if it isn't Michael Hogan, professional that he is - is obviously getting on with the part as it's been written for him. Out of the remainder, I always thought Tori was the most obvious candidate for being a Final Fiver since we didn't know that much about her and she was hovering in the background of a lot of important decisions. Since D'anna apologised to someone - I figured Anders could be a good bet for the one getting the apology in retrospect after he was revealed. After all, we clearly saw her trying to shoot him. It could be someone else but as for someone D'anna has tried to harm, he has been the one we've most clearly seen being threatened by her. Despite what the writers might say about only picking the Final Five mid-Season 3, things like that make me think that at least some things are set up much further in advance than they're letting on.

Most Over-Rated Show Ever

This TB has fallen off the charts so there's really no point in posting this, but then, I don't have to hear from the fanatical lovers either and I'm looking to waste some time. I loved this show once, but I'm not sure why. I guess I like a story about the last remnants humanity on the run for their lives. The fleet isn't really in the story anymore. You'd almost think Galactica was the only ship. And I don't really care who is or isn't a cylon anymore since they fucked with the whole "cylons are computers" aspect. That seems to be what RDM is going for and it doesn't work for me. He's created a universe where I can no longer care about any of the characters. And I don't care how quickly or slowly the plot is moving because it's stupid and pointless.

So why am I still watching? I guess I'm hoping for another Exodus II out of nowhere. Hell, I was thinking that Lost was getting to be irredeemable last year but they've really managed to pull back from the brink and become kickass again. Even if I don't get all the answers on that show, I'm enjoying myself while I watch it. Galactica is both unenjoyable and going nowhere. I'm only continuing to watch because the end-date is known. I won't be bothering with Caprica. DS9 and yes, even Stargate, were far better than this pile of crap. Hell, Cleopatra 2525 was better. A handful of potential and a few good eps, does not a good series make. The comment someone made about BSG being prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella kind of goes to show that this show is only liked by the pretentious substance-less yuppy crowd. Preaching to the wind, but it feels good to get that off my chest. This show is officially on my suck list.
