While Johan's delivered some funny Apatow line, he must realize that people are starting to figure out that he's a one note talent. Along the lines of Martin Lawrence or Anthony Anderson. Only fat white nerds aren't gonna flock to the theatre just to see him. Better diversify that porfolio pronto!

Since SNL, we know now that Jonah Hill can portray a 12 year old Jewish vaudevillian kid, too. Perhaps it should be 21 Jump Street: The Middle School Years. But it's a great idea and let's see if it works. Stephen Williams should definitely come back to direct/act. I'd like to see the 3 De Luise brothers return.

I'm telling you. I was watching "Accepted" and had a startling epiphany. Jonah Hill is the first in a scouting party of Human-Muppet hybrids bent on destroying the Earth and enslaving humanity (well, the enslavement stuff would happen first I think). Seriously, the guy has nictating lenses over his eyes and that weird velcro muppet hair. Plus he can't form coherent words...which is understandable if your tongue is made of terry cloth. I did see he's lost weight in the shit that is Evan Almighty but let me ask you...if you were a muppet...how hard is it to change your physical form? Eh doppleganger? That's right...its a removeable velcro stomach. Enjoy this doppleganger at your own risk folks. In 20 years you'll be dropping coins into my memorandum for when I was the first to see the coming apocolypse of the Human-muppet hybrid invasion. It's already begun....you're next! You're next!!!

Biography just aired the Depp story this weekend. He was so eager to get out of that show, he would come to work in drag, not shower for days, and wouldn't brush his teeth. He never ever was late or missed a rehearsal or taping, but he would make it as painful for everyone as he could without violating his contract. When it was up for a renewal, he had an option on his contract. He went to the producer and said, "I want out, but if you pull that option, I'll honor it." Producer said he was so impressed with the professionalism in Depp, he said he would not pull the option on him if he truly wanted out.

What inspires the venom for Jonah Hill? I thought he was good in SUPERBAD, and I've seen him in a cameo or two after that. If you don't think he's funny what skin is it off your ass, all you gotta do is not watch SUPERBAD again. You act like he stabbed your mom or said GI Joe was a cartoon when it turns out it was also a comics strip and he should've known that. Somebody please explain, I do not understand some of your customs.

after a while I couldn't tell who was punching who. The action broke from circular shot to circular shot. I really did get a headache from it. It was fast food, I ate it then wondered why after I realized it all just tastes like cardboard anyway.

For God's sake I am begging you, PLEASE tell us that your posts are a joke. I cannot live with the idea that you are a real human being who spends every day posting one moronic attempt at a oneliner per talkback. Every single god damn post you top the last one. Each sentence is dumber, more off the mark, less funny, more hair-pullingly frustrating. You are the perfect talkback killing machine. Not an ounce of human thought or soul wasted in your deadly typing fingers. I believe you will kill the internet.

Again, I challenge you. Write a full paragraph. Explain why you "weep for society" because they get confused by a giant CGI ball of garbage rolling around while a camera spins around it in a succession of half second cuts. Why is this a danger to society? Complete a thought. Form an argument. Explain a concept. Save the internet from certain doom.

Now I'd love to see a little black bar TB scuffle! Vern, I think you'd have a room full of targets in the political TB's (anything regarding the Oliver Stone Bush movie). Kind of like fating in an elevator...probably too easy. As for me, my bloated sense of self-importance, and my take on the Human-Muppet hybrid Jonah Hill thing...it's dumbass fun obviously. I think the only thing that actually scrapped the nadskin was someone saying Hill was the next Belushi. I don't care what you think but if you think that is the case then you are indeed a dumbass. Farley didn't replace Belushi either. Nobody does. Watch Bluto again...timeless...ageless...h ilarious....brilliant. Nuff said.

I missed the Jonah Hill hate memo. He was pretty funny and fearless on SNL the other week. His career trajectory makes sense at least, being built out of hit movies. Unlike the Farrels, Walkers, Urbans, Blooms and Laws of this world who star in devastating flop after flop and keep getting to headline big budget features. Save your ire for them.

So I call Jealousy.

Gotham Night, what kind of reaction were you looking for? Or are you more like a street preacher spouting tautology and rhetoric, disinviting reasoned debate by the very nature of your oratory? Still, at least you haven't cultivated a shaky, inconsistant schtick like Thomas Bodet. So well done there.

Not since the days of Fallon has there been anything less funny. Hill is a background character and I wish not watching Superbad, but the Hollywood accountants have decided this kid needs a producing deal and more creative freedom when it comes to the scripts that he skims while at Hometown Buffet. I don't like the kid because he doesn't deserve it. He doesn't deserve to be taken seriously - if he does, then where is the proof? Superbad? Forgetting Sarah Silverman (or whatever)? Overrated before the chance is given to even be rate at all is what I don't like seeing.

"The show is about a group of young cops whose youthful appearances enabled them to work undercover in both high schools and sometimes colleges to catch troubled youths." How could Jonah Hill NOT be writing/producing this? What's wrong Miley Cyrus was busy? Hohan's typewriter broke? They picked him because he's like 40 and managed to play a high school senior? I wish I was in on that production meeting. "We're bringing Jump Street to the big screen.. only tough part is finding someone who is really older but looks really young and can write and produce..." "HOW ABOUT THAT GUY FROM SUPERBAD" "Cera? He really is young" "No, the other guy JONAH HILL!" "THE GUY WITH THE FISH BOOTS FROM 40 YEAR OLD VIRIGIN! - PUT THIS ON THE FASTRACK!"
No, seriously Gotham. Tell us about yourself.

I'm sorry to get personal but your whole amateur VH1 talking head routine is so infuriating to me I lose my cool. But I know you're trying to be a mischievous little scamp so don't pretend you're not happy to drive everybody up and down a fuckin wall.

I'm not trying to compare educational backgrounds. I just remember you bragging that you had a communications degree, and yet you have refused to ever communicate in the talkbacks. I understand the kids who are too dumb or lazy to learn how to express themselves but I don't understand a guy who spends as much time as you in talkbacks yet never once tries to express a fully fleshed idea or engage in a discussion. And is shocked when you ask him to. What do you get out of your snide little half-formed one sentence jokes? Does it enrich your life?

You're just a mysterious guy is all. I know the answer is no but I'd just like a look behind the magic. It can't hurt to ask.

Most people contribute. I've seen you state opinions, make arguments, etc. so I don't mind if you have a smartass comment sometimes too. Above there were plenty of people saying what they thought of 21 Jump Street or whatever. I didn't mean to question everybody's contributions, Gotham Night just happens to be the most extreme example I've ever seen of somebody who only writes in one or two sentence fragments and never offers an insight or an opinion other than a smartassed disdain for anything and everyone. And I guess there's alot of mean-spiritedness around here but what makes it worse is that it's always in the form of what appears to be meant as a joke but is often hard to quite translate into English. And lately she seems more and more out of touch, like making a ROADHOUSE 2 joke even though everyone knows there is a ROADHOUSE 2, or not knowing that some people have trouble following the action scenes in TRANSFORMERS, etc. Seriously, try googling Gotham Night or her old screen name SkywalkerFamily. It's like staring into the abyss.

Anyway, sorry for derailing the talkback and thanks to the couple people whoe tried to answer my question about Jonah Hill. Back to 21 Jump Street.

Do you not have any clue who Jonah Hill is? If you did you'd know that he is NOT being continually showered with "chicks, money, or juicy film roles". And writing that Jonah Hill is "overrated" is like writing that applie pie is good for your carborator. It just doesn't make any sense. I agree with you that he won't be making movies in 10 years, and that he has zero charisma, but he's a fat comedian those types usually don't have charism. They're funny. That's it. No one's saying Jonah Hill is Brad Pitt. If they were than THAT would mean he was overrated. But, no one is saying that. It just wouldn't make any sense... kinda like gotham_night. Jonah Hill was amazing in Superbad! That's the first movie in years I've actually got a kick out of putting on for friends who've come round and watching them go from What's this teen shit to Fuck me this is amazing and i'm 35! and it's down to the superb writing but mostly the brilliant delivery and physical comedy coming from the little rotund dude with the Hair bear bunch Hair and his skinny pal. He didn't have much to do in Knocked up or forgetting Sarah Marshall and I think Superbad may might turn out to be his best moment, who knows but he doesn't deserve the flack in fact he deserves a reward for NOT selling his soul to Mickey(TWAT)Bay!

ps I think Transformers 2 'Twisted Metal Fuckeroo' would benefit slightly from being in 3D coz you might be able to see around things and through things to some of the FX work going on in their or maybee not! either way i won't be subjecting my retinas to another scorching or my wallet to another raping.

It occupies a bit of mindspace in a kind of nebulous way, so really, Hill can take it any damn direction he wants. And every studio in town prefers sequels & remakes to original ideas, as it's a wonderful fallback justification if the movie tanks. Besides, with Pineapple Express (which looks good and should do well), the suits can assuage themselves that Judd's kids can do action comedy.

And for the record, Apatow - a smart, funny, wily dude - has quite the talented stable there.

Is due to his horrid performance in what may be the most disgusting film of the decade so far, Superbad. The movie was vile, not funny, crass, insulting and unoriginal. It's stunning that people rave about the "sweetness" of this overheated turd of a movie...there isn't an original thought or moment to be found anywhere in that excruciating train wreck. And Hill ...was the icing on the cake. His performance was grating, over the top, annoying...it's a dire situation if this poorly written and executed "comedy" is any indication of the state of modern American comedy.

Because his act consists of one thing "being loud" (also "being fat" sells the joke more, which is a subset of his mediocrity) Therefore, he has one joke, loud, which isn't funny, so that's why he sucks.

Why remake or reimagine an old television series? How about creating something new. I want an original idea.

Yeah. I know it is a rare thing in Hollywood but I can dream.

How does Ice Cube rate stepping into Gabe Kaplan's shoes? All they have in common is the 'Fro.

The show was originally meant as a vehicle for Kaplan to do a version of his stand-up act in a sitcom, until Travolta hijacked the show by spending everything he earned publicizing himself (ask the dude who played Epstein. He said Travolta never had any money to go out, so they covered him. JT knew how to apply his capital wisely). Oh yeah, and the writers - who obviously all hated their teachers - put all the best lines in the kids' mouths.

In the end tho it will have much in common with Starsky & Hutch, 21 Jump Street, hell, Mission Impossible for that matter, in that the producers are just borrowing the name and some bare bones from the concept to shape a mainstream vehicle for whatever stars they happen to cast.

Hi, lonnnnggg time lurker and very rare poster. This brought me out to vouch for the underdog. Go GN, ya got noticed and your user name always gets my attention. I like the cut of your gib, and I've seen some gibs in my time, let me tell you. Vern, you just boosted this guy's power rating with the recognition via your random rant - Luv it. Kudos to you both. Jump street was great. The Greico Spin-off, 'Booker' was fun and stupid (how was the Die Hard rip?). Jonah Hill actually made me laugh, and the end scenes of Transformers were as bloody annoying as the quick edit fight scenes in Batman Returns. We better damn well see Batman actually fight this time. Heck, I actually play the GameCube version of Batman Begins just to see the moves without getting whiplash. Back to lurking.
Not Returns... Begins..

All this returning and beginning, sheesh. Batman Returns, Batman Begins, Superman Returns, but Superman doesn't Begin again. The Empire Strikes Back, while the Jedi Returns and Jedis don't begin, they just keep doing the same Clone war over and over again.
21 Jump Street should not be remade

Hollywood has been originality challenged the past 10 years. We don't need no stinkin' remakes. 21 Jump Street is one of the best tv shows ever and that magic can't be recaptured. And I don't understand Depp complaining about the show. He had the opportunity to play all kinds of characters just like he does now. Jump Street was a good learning experience for him. And all those motherfuckers who were responsible for the 21 Jump Street season boxes WITHOUT the original soundtracks should be put to sleep. Don't rip off people if you don't have the original soundtrack. I don't need to see Whooly Booly while a dance track is playing.

Jonah Hill is because, he is riding the coatails of Seth Rogen. And we are already trying to deal with him being a big star, but at least he has been around for a while and somewhat deserving of being a star that is allowed to do whatever he wants. And he is only a year older then Jonah. And all Jonah does now is try to be Seth Rogen. If he was more of the weird akward loser guy like in Virgin and accepted it wouldn't be as bad. Especially now since Eathn Suplee is set on potraying a retard, and lost a lot of weight. Also the almost back to back of Seth and Rogen hosting SNL was painfully unfunny, but thats been SNL for the most part recently.

As for this movie, its either going to be Starsky and Hutch or the Mod Squad, either way it'll be worse then both. And for re-making an old TV show. We all know its going to happen till the death of Hollywood. I myself don't even associate most old tv shows turned to movies with each other. Also you'd think someone coming from the Apatow crew would try to make something new and different. I guess Jonah does have as many ideas as Seth.

Worse than Starsky & Hutch and Mod Squad?

Harsh. This could be comedy gold. Although I'd almost rather see Rogen do it since he can look like he's in his late 30s and I'm guessing that's going to be part of the joke. Thee was a typo up top that made me think Hill should change his name from Jonah to Johan. That's comedy gold. Anyway. Will Apatow be involved in developing this? He's comedy gold.

I think it's a fair question on Vern's part. If there can be a giant debate about flames on frigging Optimus Prime, I think it's only fair to have a small debate on the quality of TB participants. If you or Goth are intimidated by the fact that Vern has an admin black box, that's YOUR damage. Vern doesn't run the site, so how is it at all fascist for him to disapprove of the quality of TB posts? And has he banned Goth for not providing follow-up or depth? No, he hasn't. So once again, where's the fascism? His point was that most guys who regularly contribute to TBs mix it up. Half well-reasoned discussion, half snarky one-liners.

has to do with the fact that he's a weird-looking overweight dude. I think it's similar to Rogen backlash. If you read reviews for the recent glut of Apatow flicks, critics love to point out the "schlub" main characters. Even Peter in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Which personally I find infuriating. Jason Segel is a schlub??? What the fuck constitutes a leading man physique, people? Anyway, personal aggravation aside, I do think there's an element of jealousy at work.

and I got no problem with someone being banned for killing a TB like we see here on occasion - I just don't see why our posts have to pass some kind of quality control - and that's not just about Vern either.

There's room on here for stupid nonsensical posts as much as there is for flames and for poignant, well articulated deep insight and anything else, for that matter...

maybe it's a little hypocritical of me, singling out Vern for singling out Gotham - I'll cop that - now lets move on

I hate Seinfeld. Absolutely hate it. Can't sit through an entire episode. But I long ago manned up and admitted that I'm in the minority and it's best to just accept it. You anti-Apatow gang folks should do the same. You're not going to escape that group any time soon. So bitch all you want, it's not going to change the fact that you ARE in the minority.
