Where the writers write about writers who write and do other cool stuff too. Perhaps this is "Murder, He Wrote" for a new hip generation...sigh.

HUH...no one has heard of Alan Taylor?...hmmm must not watch tv or have watched some of tv best shows in the last 6 or so years. And directors matter or geeks wouldn't be pissing and moaning about Mc G or Paul WS Anderson...a good director helps. And yeah AMC has two good shows....and.....and...oh wait they have only 2 good shows. HBO has had...hmmm The Sopranos....Rome...Six Feet Under....Deadwood...fuck thats not relevant is it...no way those shows meant nothing to tv no way...fucking idiots. SUre geeks gotta be hip and only like what is supposedly cool...like AMC...oh well pile on the bandwagon but all I can say is Mad Men will never be Deadwood no matter what fucking channel its on so thats that. ANd Schwartzman kicks ass....geez give the show a chance before you rip on it.

Also, Roswell is on sale at Amazon. I would buy it, but I'm embroiled in a Katherine Heigl embargo.
at least HBO is factually naming its series now.

soon to be followed by: "Sucks So Bad You Won't Watch It" "Shit" "No Other Channel Wanted This Show."

HBO had... / AMC has...

Well, HBO had the best TV series ever (The Wire, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Carnivale, Oz). AMC has ONE brilliant show (Mad Men) who won't change anything on television since it is built exactly as The Sopranos. Don't talk about Breaking Bad, please. And don't even mention Showtime either (Weeds jumped the mothafuckin' shark in season 2, The L Word at the end of its second round, Dexter is good but season's endings sucks all the time, The Tudors are irrelevant. Californication is fun but without Duchovny, it would be probably a pile of shit). So yeah, HBO is not the great HBO we knew, but still remains the channel who brought to us ones of the best shows ever... And about BORED TO DEATH : if Schwartzmann is in it, i'm all for it. This guy is the coolest man on earth (check his album "Coconut Records").
Sounds questionable, but...

Taylor is great, and weekly Schwartzman is wonderful. I definitely think AMC and Showtime have better programming than HBO now, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to watch a program just because it isn't on the former two.
Marcus Torrance, have you watched Weeds this season?...

I've always enjoyed Weeds, but this season is such a tremendous leap in quality. I'd say this season is just as good as anything the Office or Arrested Development did. Everything is working so well, it seems as if the entire first three seasons were merely done to get to this point. Has anyone else enjoyed the hell out of Weeds this season?
Shows about writers

Are almost always of saying "I don't know much about anything but myself, so I think I'll make my character a writer." Yeah...that's good writing.
How do you "pretend" to be a private detective?

Just tell people "Hi, I'm private detetive"? Sounds like a bad show. But if he actually does private detective stuff, then he's not pretending.

...after years of masochistically reading the 95 percent juvenile/5 percent insightful posts... The "somebody named" referred to Jonathan Ames, not Alan Taylor. The latter brings this project enough gravitas on his own, whatever you think of Schwartzman (I like him), but it's the fact that no one seems to know about Jonathan Ames that gets me. He's one of the funniest writers out there, a cross between David Sedaris and Charles Bukowski. Check out his book of autobiographical essays WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE, for a start. He also does fiction, as in his hilarious modern day send-up of the Jeeves trope WAKE UP, SIR!, about a dipsomaniac who takes a butler to a writer's retreat. His trademark, though, is his brutally honest take on his own vices and short-comings. He's the heir to Spalding Gray's throne; in fact, he wrote a great piece about stalking the monologue king when he bumped into him on vacation. I do second the idea that HBO needs to pull in some serious anchor shows soon, or else it'll be the new (old)Showtime (which is becoming the new old NBC).

its a shell of the books based on the actual story. Generation Kill the series is adequate at best.

Only one episode, the last, has carried the impact of the book.

I suppose it's a matter of opinion how good the HBO series Generation Kill is but how the series compares to the book is irrelevant. I find the dialog and the acting to be great and the production values very high. That alone puts it head and shoulders above most of what else is on tv. If you're comparing it to a perfect vision that exists only in your head after reading the book, then that's pretty unrealistic, dude. And get some sun.
Great idea! Except it was called 'Andy Barker, P.I.'.

He apparently pitched an idea to HBO recently. It sounds pretty interesting. I havn't been a fan of his recent albums, but maybe the show will be something different for him. Flight of the Conchords is a good show too. I enjoy HBO.

Bring back Carnivale

They MUST bring back Carnivale, it is simply the best and most well thought out, complete television mythology ever. And one of the most sensical well thought out mythologies period for that matter. For instance, did you know that Dan Knauf, the writer of Carnivale had outlines and episodes to cover thre e" books (two seasons per book) at which point the series would've been finished. How many show creators have all their subplots covered, all their ends tied up before they even start shooting the show? For the most part Knauf knew EXACTLY what he wanted to accomplish and was executing flawless television, not to mention it had a fucking PERFECT cast. God, what a travesty.
