Baz Luhrmann Casts Tom Hanks In An Untitled ELVIS Biopic!

Hola Dannie aqui,

The good folks at Variety.com broke the story that director Baz Luhrmann has cast Tom Hanks to play the part of "Colonel" Tom Parker in a film about the king of rock n' roll Elvis Presley.

Colonel Tom Parker was Elvis' talent manager throughout the singer's life and managed his estate (poorly) after Elvis' passing in 1977. Parkers story is a remarkable one, technically began his life in America as an illegal immigrant who jumped ship fleeing the Netherlands to become a carnie then show biz man who is called by some an "entrepreneurial genius." His story alone would be an interesting film, and I wonder how much of this untitled Elvis Biopic will revolve around "Colonel" Parker. (Also, he was never a Colonel that was a nickname.)

Since Hank's has been cast to play him, I am pretty sure Parker's part will be substantial, but when it comes to Luhrmann, you never know. One thing we always can bet on is that everything Luhrmann touches comes out visually brilliant and that fact has me imagining how he will pay tribute to the 50s' 60s' and 70s' on screen as his films are always a visual ballet.

Luhrmann sat down with Craig Pearce to develop the screenplay about the life and times of Elvis Presley. Luhrmann and Hanks are hoping to start production on the film at some point later this year. I am also happy to report that Baz has also begun meeting with a roster of talent for the role of Elvis, and it is said he is looking for a new and undiscovered actor. I can not wait to see (and hear) who they cast. I'm thinking Baz is going to find a Broadway entertainer, but you never know. Will this be covering Elvis' entire life? If so they will need some effects guys to do the age, drug, and weight transitions Elvis faced during his short time on Earth.

Who would you cast as Elvis? What do you think of the news? How many of you are as crazy about the King as Clarence Worley from "True Romance?"
