Hola Dannie aqui,
Today I stumbled upon a kick-ass poster (by Brutal Posters @BRUTALPosters) for a film titled "MANIAC NUN ON A MISSION TO KILL LEO FOUNTAINE" and had to look into it. So I immediately turned to IMDB and found well nothing, this was highly disappointing, but I was not going to stop until I found out what the hell "MANIAC NUN ON A MISSION TO KILL LEO FOUNTAINE" actually is. So I turned to YouTube in hopes of finding a trailer only to see the entire 16-minute short film!
The short film on YouTube was posted by director filmmaker James Dean. You heard that correctly his name is JAMES DEAN!
No, not that James Dean this one! (pictured below) You can find Mr. Dean on Twitter @jamesd7004!
Director James Dean describes "MANIAC NUN ON A MISSION TO KILL LEO FOUNTAINE" as-
"Maniac Nun follows the story of Mary who is hell-bent on finding and killing the responsible parties that sold her younger sister the drugs that ended her life."
Mr. Dean goes on to state that-
"This short film is my love letter to the often overlooked Exploitation flicks of the '60s and '70s."
Here is the short nunsploitation film "MANIAC NUN ON A MISSION TO KILL LEO FOUNTAINE."
Well, what did all of you out there think of "MANIAC NUN ON A MISSION TO KILL LEO FOUNTAINE" by James Dean? It is obvious that Mr. Dean is a lover of exploitation films as he pays homage to "They Call Her One Eye" aka "Thriller: A Cruel Picture," "Kill Bill," "I Spit on Your Grave" and other ultra-violent revenge driven sexploitation. "MANIAC NUN ON A MISSION TO KILL LEO FOUNTAINE" has over the top DIY digital special effects that let you know the people behind this film are genuinely reveling in the fun of filmmaking and not taking themselves too seriously. "MANIAC NUN ON A MISSION TO KILL LEO FOUNTAINE" is a DIY love letter to a genre of cinema that will forever inspire filmmakers talented and passion-driven alike. Now I could be a tight ass typical critic and rip into this little homage for all its faults, but I refuse to do so. This short film was not "perfect," but it is definitely an act of love.
My tips to director James Dean-
1. Do not stop making films because you will just get better. Follow your passion.
2. Look into practical effects there is so much you could learn by merely looking up make-up and effects tutorials on YouTube. (I say this because I really wanted to see what Mary was doing exactly with that sword seeing a blade go in would've made the torture an easier sell)
3. Push your actors to bring forth their best possible performance and thoroughly plan your fight choreography.
4. Do not listen to the haters, but do listen to constructive criticism.
5. Contact Troma Films they know about creative freedoms, and they have darn fun effects and access to actors etc... I think you and Troma should get together and make movie babies!
One of my absolute favorite modern day exploitation films is Michael Jai White's "BLACK DYNAMITE" a true modern gem of blacksploitation. I love "Shaft," "SuperFly," "Petey Wheatstraw," "Coffy," "Reform School Girls," "Cannibal Ferox," "Death Proof," "Hobo With A Shot Gun," "Faster Pussycat Kill Kill," "Ilsa She Wolf of the SS," "Switchblade Sisters," "Big Doll House," "The Big Bird Cage," "Foxy Brown," "Black Mama White Mama," "Sweet Sweetback," "Sweet Sweetback's BAADASSSSS Song," and so many more! Also, I have to say @BRUTALPosters designed a poster better than the majority of shit posters Hollywood poops out. Kudos to @BRUTALPosters! What are some of your favorite exploitation films?
Stay Strong, Live Good, Love Movies!
