Netflix MUDBOUND Trailer Digs Deep Into Post WW2 Trauma Astro Heathen reports!

Hola Dannie aqui!

Our little Astro Heathen flew in with a trailer and a look at Netflix's new film "MUDBOUND"!

AstroHeathen back again, with a preview of a humanist American period drama entitled MUDBOUND hitting Netflix on the 17th of this month.

MUDBOUND is a bold embrace of racism, community, poverty and the early stages of understanding the PTSD experienced through two struggling families, the McAllans and the Jacksons, in Jim Crow Mississippi after WW2. Soldiers return home to work the land, and perhaps, in turn, they can plant their differences in the mud and grow from their trauma in this tender and sincere reflection of the times.

"I learned how to stitch up a bleeding wound, load and fire a shotgun, my hands did these things, but I was never easy in my mind."

With familiar faces like Johnathan Banks (BETTER CALL SAUL, AIRPLANE!) playing a less than endearing Pappy McAllan, Jason Mitchell (STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, BROKEN CITY) as Ronsel Jackson, veteran son of sharecropper Hap Jackson, played by Rob Morgan (STRANGER THINGS, DAREDEVIL), Mary J. Blige (DEATH RACE, PRECIOUS) as Florence Jackson, and Garrett Hedlund (TRON: LEGACY) as Jaimie McAllan, there are some perhaps lesser known gems in the cast such as Kelvin Harrison Jr. (IT COMES AT NIGHT, THE BIRTH OF A NATION) playing a character only named Weeks, Carey Mulligan (DRIVE, NEVER LET ME GO) as Laura McAllan and Geraldine Singer (GET OUT, 21 JUMP STREET) as Laura's mother.

Written and directed by Dee Rees, best known for BESSIE and PARIAH, as well as the first episode, KILL ALL OTHERS of Phillip K. Dick's series adaption ELECTRIC DREAMS, along with the help of writer Virgil Williams most known for his involvement with CRIMINAL MINDS and 24, this film shows a lot of promise for those who wish to open their hearts and minds to understand the struggles that affect every one of us on a fundamental level.

The cast was nominated for Special Jury Award: Ensemble Performance at the Gotham Independent Film Awards. In December, Netflix bought the distribution rights to the Sundance film and will premiere it on their streaming platform November 17th.

I'll definitely be catching this, perhaps a review will be in order. The title and trailer alone resonate with me, as I hope it resonates with many others.

AstroHeathen signing out.
