Cronenberg, Jen & Sylvia Soska make Madame Revenant "RABID"!

Hola Dannie aqui!

I just got some delightfully horrific news from our undying phoenix, Madame Revenant! Read on Boils and Ghouls for deadly goodies!

Madame Revenant here Cronenberg-ing out!

Jen and Sylvia Soska, the identical queens of macabre, the masters of American Mary, have announced that they plan to direct a reboot of David Cronenberg’s RABID. They plan to begin shooting sometime 2018.

Cronenberg is synonymous with science fiction and horror. His films reach far beyond what is taboo. They are often devastatingly honest, ripping into what makes us human, what makes us toxic, and what makes us unique yet truly the same. RABID is a story about the dangers of the medical field specifically experimental plastic surgery which results in the creation of a new creature who feeds on human blood. Through her frenzied bloodlust, a zombie-like outbreak ensues. She goes through a life-altering experience (motorcycle crash) which leaves her in a coma, disfigured and confused. She wakes from surgery and is compelled to feed upon the man who is checking up on her welfare. It’s only through that first feed that she has the initiative to escape the clinic to find new prey. In a way, it tells of man’s fear of releasing women from bondage and the consequences of their freedom. It is also a cautionary tale of how easy a pandemic could spread among the human race. What makes this film interesting is its nod to Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, showing the audience that despite humanity's best efforts, we are doomed to destroy ourselves. That even heroes and demons are damned side by side. I could go on and on about this film because I enjoy body horror with practical effects over CGI. Cronenberg has been one director that is instrumental in my love horror and of bloody, pulsating viscera.

The Soska sisters also have a talent for special effects and for this, I am rather excited about the outcome of this venture. American Mary is a great film in its own right, ripe with female empowerment. There are few films that I can reference that truly show a woman in power and in complete control over her destiny. American Mary is one of them. I look forward to what the Soska sisters have in store for us and hope they do justice to one of the ultimate geniuses of horror.

Stay thirsty for blood my fiends,
