Award winning director F. Gary Gray is in negotiations for the director’s seat to helm the upcoming MEN IN BLACK spinoff! Gray is perhaps best known for STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, and THE ITALIAN JOB. On top the six awards Gray has taken home, he has been nominated 11 times. Gray has had more recent success with FATE OF THE FURIOUS, which according to Variety: has broken a box office record by grossing $532.5 million worldwide on opening weekend! Gray has strong skills directing action, but can he capture the loveable weirdness of MEN IN BLACK?
The new MEN IN BLACK has a script pennned by IRON MAN writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. Their draft has been greenlit by the studio!
Steven Spielberg is executive producing! Spielberg is still producing and directing great work, but for some reason I don’t really ever see him or his name being used to pump up people to go see his work anymore, what’s the deal with that? Spielberg’s THE POST recently received some Oscar nominations, yet he wasn’t nominated for Best Director. He is also directing the highly anticipated READY PLAYER ONE. What else is he producing right now though? Aside from the new MEN IN BLACK, we have the ANIMANIACS reboot to look forward to on Hulu in 2020! (2020 is gearing up to be a pretty grand year for movies and animation.)
Neither Tommy Lee Jones, nor Will Smith are expected to return to their roles in MEN IN BLACK in any form. Ithink when it comes around though, either one may pop in for a cameo, or at the very least have their characters referred to as MIB veterans. I just wanna watch MIB 3 all over again!
