CBS ALL ACCESS takes THE STAND

Hello all Mad Dashiell here and thank you for joining me. To those that subscribed to CBS All Access to see the new STAR TREK and maybe started asking yourselves why else am I here? Well, that question gets answered today.

Over two years ago, director Josh Boone THE FAULT IN OUR STARS let the cat out of the bag relating to his four-film adaptation of Stephen King’s THE STAND. However, the project was also being shelved in place of his spin on King's latter-day novel REVIVAL. Sadly neither project has come to fruition. Last we checked Boone was strolling with Dante through the bowels of reshoot hell for his horrific vision of X-MEN: THE NEW MUTANTS. So, after digging to the bottom of a recent report from the Tracking Board, new news has come to light on Boone’s New Mutants delays not being as dire as they might have previously sounded. Attached is a grain of hope about THE STAND being developed now into a 10-hour series for CBS All-Access.

“[Boone’s] still attached to direct an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand, which we hear is coming together as a ten-hour limited series at CBS All Access,” the report reads. This adds up because previously it was reported that rights for the property reverted back to CBS Films after Warner Bros. dropped the ball with lack of progress due to previous failed iterations from Ben Affleck and David Yates.

The long-form series is definitely the way to go with King’s 1,200-page post-apocalyptic masterpiece, though I can already hear fans saying its affiliation with CBS is somewhat disappointing. But all that could play out differently in the scope of CBS's new All Acess programming vs the made for tv series we have seen disappoint us in the past. Hopefully, In the end, it won’t suffer or be limited by the strictures of network television. Die-hard fans remain optimistic, as it is known that Boone’s passion for the project has been well-documented.

What else can I say besides I hope it see's the light of day soon and doesn't end up in the bargain basement level of the Dark Tower. Stay tuned for new updates and thanks for joining me.

Mad Dashiell signing off.
