So GHOSTBUSTERS 2016 had a very mixed preconception and reception before and after it was released. There was so much controversy over the idea of female ghostbusters before the movie ever came out! If you said you were interested in seeing it, you were betraying the original. If you said you didn’t want to see it, you were a woman-hating piece of shit who didn’t deserve to live, according to people on the internet.
I was actually one of those people who didn’t think an all female GHOSTBUSTERS would be a good idea, but I was open to where the movie actually went. I ended up really enjoying it. The movie certainly had its problems, but they did a great job recapturing the fun of the original GHOSTBUSTERS films.
Paul Feig was asked in an interview if we will ever see a new GHOSTBUSTERS, and he told interviewers that he was ready to go sequel as soon as the studio allows it, and that he will “go to the grave so proud of that movie”. GHOSTBUSTERS 2016 had won Best Movie at the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice awards, so apparently it resonated real well with a young audience.
I personally would love to see a sequel. Only this time they need to better develop their villain and not be so cut-happy with the editing. I haven’t seen the director’s cut, but I’ve been curious about what it does for the quality of the reboot.
