ABC on Tuesday cancelled its top-rated show, “Roseanne,” 11 hours after star Roseanne Barr, an avid Donald Trump supporter, tweeted (then deleted) this:
“Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”
The “vj” referred to longtime Barack Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, an African-American.
“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” said Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment.
“Roseanne” is not only the biggest show on ABC, it's the biggest series on any broadcast network, and it’s almost the biggest show on television, trailing only AMC’s “The Walking Dead” and HBO’s “Game of Thrones” (which is airing no new episodes this year).
CMT announced that it will stop airing repeats of the original "Roseanne" series that aired on ABC decades ago.
Trump was quick to congratulate Barr on her extraordinary TV ratings, but has yet to say whether or not he approves of her Jarret comment.
