WIDOWS is written by Gillian Flynn (GONE GIRL) and Steve McQueen (12 YEARS A SLAVE), who also directed, from Lynda La Plante's 1983 ITV (England) miniseries (also remade in 2002 as an American mini-series).
The set-up is about a group of women whose husbands/partners are all killed during a heist gone bad. Now deeply in debt to the criminal organization their men worked for, the widows decide to settle scores and get a pension out of a crime world trying to run them into the ground.
Viola Davis ("How To Get Away With Murder"), Michelle Rodriguez (FATE OF THE FURIOUS), Elizabeth Debicki (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2), and Cynthia Erivo play the widows; Daniel Kaluuya (GET OUT) and Brian Tyree Henry ("Atlanta") are the underworld collectors pressing the women for their money. Liam Neeson (TAKEN), Jon Bernthal ("Marvel's The Punisher"). Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN) play three of the doomed men. Also in the cast are Colin Farrell (FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM), Lukas Haas (WITNESS), and Robert Duvall (THE JUDGE).
WIDOWS opens in November.
