Afternoon, geeks.
It seems that Netflix is now attempting yet another progressive, and likely sex positive animation, like BIG MOUTH. Yeah, you remember BIG MOUTH, that show about a bunch of kids going through puberty that made you unsure if it was actually progressive, or just too freaking weird to exist. (I watched through, while it was pretty uncomfortable most of the time, the story started to come together toward the end of the first season, and I’m ready for more!) Fortunately, SUPER DRAGS doesn’t immediately give off that immediate feel of cringe from the trailer alone like BIG MOUTH did. It’s all about being fabulous, of course!
On the surface, this show looks really shallow. I watched this trailer and then stepped away for a moment, thinking that this could indeed be a progressive show if the writers were certain to add some depth to it beyond the idea of “LOL men dressed as women fighting crime”.
I guess they’re aware of how shallow the teaser looked because when I went to read the premise, it ends with “Get ready, because the SUPER DRAGS are going deeper than you think.” Oh-ho...We’ll see how the show turns out and if it holds true to that statement.
Here’s the rest of the plot description:
“During the day, they work in a department store and deal with their uptight bitchy boss. By night, they tighten up their corsets and transform into the baddest SUPER DRAGS in town, ready to combat shade and rescue the world's glitter from the evil villains.”
Really, I am most interested in seeing the full design of the queen who is obviously a reference to SAILOR MOON. The whole thing has a Japanese magical girl feel, I mean just look at the logo. Hardcore SAILOR MOON influence.
SUPER DRAGS, coming soon to Netflix!
