UPDATE:
Morning geeks, some not so great news... INDY 5 production got pushed back MONTHS, maybe even for a whole YEAR. Deadline implies that this is due to a scheduling conflict with director Steven Spielberg. Spielberg is currently in pre-production with a remake for WEST SIDE STORY, with THE KIDNAPPING OF EDGUARDO MORTARA next in the queue.
Apparently Jonathan Kasdan has not yet signed a contract to replace David Koepp. Kasdan may only polish the first draft of the script that Koepp has already written.
INDIANA JONES 5 is NOT coming out July 10th, 2020 as previously planned. The release date will likely be pushed back to sometime 2021.
LucasFilm has a lot of changes going on with plans, first the Star Wars spinoffs, now David Koepp has dropped out of writing for the new INDY flick? According to Collider, Koepp provided no comment! Disney/Lucas film representatives had no comments, either. Jonathan Kasdan will be taking Koepp’s place as the film’s scribe.
Jonathan Kasdan is known for his work directing CALIFORNICATION, oh myyyyy, and wrote SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, DAWSON’S CREEK, and FREAKS AND GEEKS. What an interesting, mixed resume. With these in mind, will we get a weird, action packed, but sexy version of Indiana Jones? I’m really into seeing what comes out of this guy’s mind.
Steven Spielberg himself is directing INDIANA JONES 5, which will likely be Harrison Ford’s last ride as Indy. I’m still all for Chris Pratt to take is place if they choose to make more!
The release date is set for July 10th, 2020. 2020 is looking like a great year for film and animation, can’t wait!
