Hello all, Mad Dashiell here and thanks for joining me today. As the DC Universe continues to gain steam on the streaming service bandwagon, we are excited to see where it will take us.
DC Universe has finally released a synopsis this morning for the upcoming James Wan-produced Swamp Thing series, which is slated to air starting in 2019 on DC's new streaming service. A “scary love story” is how it is being pitched. It will follow Abby Arcane, an employee at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta. She ends up triggering a pandemic and this deadly swamp-born virus she is investigating has monstrous effects on Alec Holland. Sounds like they are going THE SHAPE OF WATER route with the classic BEAUTY AND THE BEAST motif surrounded by a swamp with dark mystical secrets.
-Swamp Thing was created by Bernie Wrightson and Len Wein, 1st appearance was in House of Secrets back in 1971. The character has gone through a lot of adaptations over the years, including a 1982 feature written and directed by horror visionary Wes Craven starring Ray Wise as Swamp Thing. Fox debuted a silly Saturday morning cartoon that spawned its own toy-line. The prolific director Jim Wynorski (CHOPPING MALL) directed the 1989 sequel and USA Network aired a live-action TV series from Joseph Stefano (PSYCHO, writer) that ran three seasons back in 1990.
-Personally, I hope they borrow some inspiration from Moore’s version of the character. Thanks for joining me this is Mad Dashiell signing off!
