Hello all, Mad Dashiell here and thanks for joining me today!
News of a live-action adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez' groundbreaking graphic novel Locke & Key has been picked up by Netflix is no longer just a rumor. Eager fans have been clamoring for a live action version since Fox filmed a Pilot back in 2011. Lets thank the sticky star spawn that Faux television didn't ruin it already. It has been languishing in cable network purgatory ever since for many years and failed projects to be. For a moment there was also talk of Scott Derrickson the writer and director of DR. STRANGE helming the project for Hulu, sets were even being built before the halt.
The great news to fans right now is that Joe Hill will be writing and executive producer for the show. Development for Locke and Key will be done by Carlton Cuse, Meredith Averill, and Aron Eli Coleite. Hill and Coleite also collaborated for writing the first episode. If they remain true to the source with a hard R-rating then this will be spectacular.
Locke & Key is a complex, sprawling tale that spans generations while following the story of Nina Locke, her three children, Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode after surviving an unspeakable horror. The relocated family attempt to rebuild their broken lives at Keyhouse, their family home in Lovecraft, Massachusetts. Keyhouse is a mysterious New England mansion, with fantastic and transformative keys hidden throughout its grounds. The keys are also being sought by a relentless hate-fueled creature with deep ties to the Locke family's past. Whatever this creatures past may truly be It will stop at nothing to accomplish its dark design.
Mad Dashiell's Space For Rant- To say Locke & Key is Lovecraftian is really an understatement. The town is named Lovecraft and if that isn't already a 1000-pound hint then the story itself touches on all the right elements for cosmic horror fans. The tale pulls no punches and gets you off to the races immediately with catastrophe afflicting the family by page 2. It is bloody and gruesome without having over the top gore trying to carry a scary story. Panels are brought to life with perfect art by Gabriel Rodriguez who is one of the greatest comic artists alive in my opinion. The levels of depth within the characters are amazing and emotions captured at times might move you to your core. Some say Joe Hill writes like King except he is getting somewhere. As a King fan, I can relate, but Locke & Key is a graphic novel that must be experienced to really understand its inherent awesomeness. It is easily one of my favorite I have ever read.
Thanks for joining me, Mad Dashiell signing off.
