Freddy Beans here with some kick-ass news on TIME BANDITS from Deadline!
Apple has almost completed a deal for the rights to Terry Gilliam’s 1981 TIME BANDITS film to be turned into a TV series. Which looks to be co-produced by Anonymous Content, Paramount Television, and Media Rights Capital. Mr. Gilliam will also be executive producing in a non-writing role.
TIME BANDITS story is a complicated one. It follows an eleven year old Kevin who’s boogie monster in the closet is just six time travelling dwarves. They have stolen a map that reveals all the holes in the space-time universe. The not quite 7 dwarves use it to hop from one time period to the next stealing all the goodies they can get their tiny hands on along the way. The owner of the map, the Supreme Being (Ralph Richardson), is hunting his six dwarves down to get the map and Kevin ends up mixed up in it all. They meet many historical figures along the way: Robin Hood (John Cleese), Napoleon (Ian Holm), King Agamemnon (Sean Connery), Dame Pansy (Shelley Duvall).
There's an enormous ocean walking giant with a fancy boat hat, a bullheaded jerk, ogres, tanks, lasers, bird cages over an enormous abyss, and it just doesn't stop.
For me this is the coolest news I’ve read in weeks. TIME BANDITS is beloved movie in my household. I forced it on my kids when they were little boys, since it’s a perfect coming of age movie for a young lad. Well, if you’re a little demented, and I am!
Is anyone else this excited over this news?
I am so hopeful for this one! Yeah yeah, I’m nostalgic, leave it be. The original TIME BANDITS was something to behold, especially in its era of movie making. It’s a magical film that is so full of ideas it takes you in different directions every viewing. Please don’t screw this up Apple!
Til next time Kids
