Hola Dannie aqui,
Today the fine folks at Variety broke the news that Gregory Peck's grandson Ethan Peck has been cast as Spock in the upcoming two seasons of Star Trek Discovery. Ethan has a history of working on television shows such as "10 Things I Hate About You," "That 70's Show," "Gossip Girl," "Madame Secretary," and "I Ship It." Ethan is challenged with filling some mighty big shoes, Nimoy tackled the role of Spock in 8 theatrically released films, the animated series, the original television series and two Next Generation episodes. After Nimoy, actor Zachary Quinto beamed into the role for the three recent feature films.
Alex Kurtzman said to Variety-
“Through 52 years of television and film, a parallel universe and a mirror universe, Mr. Spock remains the only member of the original bridge crew to span every era of Star Trek,” Kurtzman said.
“The great Leonard Nimoy, then the brilliant Zachary Quinto, brought incomparable humanity to a character forever torn between logic and emotion. We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning. Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack, and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy. In that spirit, we’re thrilled to welcome him to the family.”
Well, we have a new Spock in the galaxy, what do all you Trekkies and Trekkers think? I am hoping for the best; we shall see in 2019 how Ethan Peck fares.
