Cat Farris & Pamela Ribon's Graphic Novel "My Boyfriend the Bear" to Hit Screens!

Hola Dannie aqui,

The news is spreading about Legendary Entertainment picking up the rights to produce "My Boyfriend is a Bear," the graphic novel from Oni Press. The story was illustrated by Cat Farris and written by Pamela Ribon. The word is Pamela will be penning the screenplay as well as being an executive producer alongside Joe Nozemack, James Lucas Jones, Charlie Chu, and Alex Hertzberg.

The plot of the film follows the twenty-eight-year-old character, Nora who on her quest for love has had quite a few traumatizing relationships. Eventually, Nora meets her perfect suitor, a 500 pound American Black Bear. However loving their relationship is, it has its drawbacks, judgment from society, friends as well as family and of course the prep for the big guys yearly hibernation. Their relationship is beyond hilariously awkward, and in this interspecies romantic comedy, there are quite a few societal taboos addressed. Nora's story having true complexities, and a heart as big as a bear is an interesting and fun read, which I would recommend to anyone.

After Variety named Pamela Ribon as one of their "10 Screenwriters to Watch" last year she became a hot commodity in the Hollywood hills nowadays as her latest iron in the fire is that of co-writer of Disney's upcoming film "Ralph Breaks the Internet." Some more of Ribon's work in the film industry is her writing on the Disney Nature documentary "Bears," "The Smurfs: The Lost Village" and "Moana." Ribon's comic debut was BOOM! Studio's "SLAM!" a series she created along with Veronica Fish. You may also have seen some of Ribon's work in the "Rick and Morty" comics.

Well, how do all of you out there in Geeklandia feel about this odd couple hitting screens across the globe? I loved the graphic novel and have found many similarities between Nora's story and my own (no you guys I've never "made it" with a bear. However, my man is pretty darn tall, and he does sleep a ton). Metaphors are cool, and I do not think this comic encourages deviant behavior with animals if you think it does that's your twisted mind. I will be keeping a close eye on this project, keep tuning in to AICN for more in the future!
