Freddy Beans here with a trailer for BORDER that made me feel all kinds of emotions.
Sure I’m mostly confused by what exactly is going on but since it’s based on a short story by John Ajvide Lindqvist (LET THE RIGHT ONE IN) I think it’s safe to say this will not be a predictable one.
The synopsis has Neanderthal looking Tina (Eva Melander) as a customs officer who starts falling for a suspect she’s investigating, equally repulsive Vore. (Eero Milonoff) As the case unfolds revelations cause Tina to question her very existence.
I watch that trailer though and all I think is LET THE RIGHT ONE IN was all about a lonesome vampire. Changed before her time and stuck in a little girl’s body for eternity.
BORDER’s trailer has me assuming this involves a lonesome werewolf, unaware of what she is. The fox at the window, the grotesque features, the cut to wolves after showcasing their scars or varicose veins, all lead me to believe this will be Tina’s coming of age tale. That she is a werewolf (though maybe not as we know them?) and old Vore is going to show her the ropes.
Either way it looks fantastic. There’s so much mood and emotion flowing off screen here I almost grabbed a handkerchief. It’s amazing how much power is conveyed here using only the cavemen from GEICO commercials. I’m Impressed!
Already dying to see this one!
Ali Abbasi (SHELLEY) directs here off the script he co-wrote with Isabella Eklof, and John Ajvide Lindqvist. BORDER heads to theaters on October 26th.
Anyone else out there want to see two Cro-Magnon’s dance with the devil under the pale moonlight?
I sure do!
Til next time Kids
