Totaling all 2018 House races, more than 8.8 million more Americans voted for Democrats than voted for Republicans, beating the all-time Watergate-era record.
Total net gain for House Dems stands at 39, but an insanely close House race in California now looks likely to bump that up to 40.
On the Senate side, things were even more lopsided. Totaling all 2018 U.S. Senate races, more than 15.5 million more Americans voted for Democrats than voted for Republicans. To put it another way, 58% of Americans voted to put Democrats in the Senate this year, versus 39.8% who voted to put Republicans in the Senate this year. (Should we brace for a White House announcement that 16 million illegal aliens voted in 2018?)
Tuesday’s runoff election in Mississippi is expected to give Republicans its 53rd seat in the next U.S. Senate.
