It was perhaps a pleasant coincident with Will Smith in the news yesterday debuting the world his look as Genie in the upcoming live action adaptation ALADDIN, as today the first trailer for MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL has dropped! Are you excited?! I am! Let’s take a look.
My ears perked right up when I heard the the orchestrated music. I didn’t even know I remembered what that sounded like, but I was overcome with nostalgia immediately with this trailer.
But oh, those paintings of J and K!
This trailer makes it appear as though the spin-off shares the wit and the charm of the old movies. Heck yeah, to those laser weapons!
Kumail Nanjiani’s character has been revealed as a teeny alien. We already knew his character was to be an alien, but I don’t recall it mentioning that he was going to be so small. The old MIB movies had a common theme that size doesn’t really matter.
We hear Liam Neeson’s voice “We are the Men in Black” of course you can’t help but wonder if it’s followed up by “And we will find you, and we will vaporize you.”
Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth seem to fit in their roles naturally, but it seems like we will have two of Will Smith's characters in this? Thompson is obviously the rookie. I think that perhaps instead of having the grumpy old senior agent guide the rookie, they decided to make him Tommy Lee Jones' opposite by making him careless.
I enjoyed the heck out of the old movies, I’m super excited for this one! The feel of it is just right, though obviously it’s made for the time it is being released, or “modernized”, but I don’t have a problem with that!
Can’t wait for it to hit theaters this Summer in June!
