One of US! One of US! One of US!!

Freddy Beans here with some first peeks at Jordan Peele’s 2nd film US, from ENTERTAINMENT.

I like what I’m seeing so far!

A few things stand out for me here.  Jordan’s mention of a “Monster mythology,” which could mean all sorts of things.  From folks that are evil, to actual fucking monsters.  Either way really, Jordan has already shown a masterful handle on atmosphere in his debut, with GET OUT.  Personally, I’m hoping for an apeshit shapeshifting alien monster that eats the livers of young kids.  Sorry, Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex!

Lupita Nyong’o (Adelaide) is the star here, along her right hand man and BLACK PANTHER co-star Winston Duke (Gabe).  They play the parents of Shahadi and Evan and presumably on the run from the STRANGERS dressed in SUSPIRIA clothes.

The monsters have a name, the Tethered.  I guess that means, they’re really grounded.

What really stood out for me here was that Entertainment calls movies like THE BABADOOK, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN and IT FOLLOWS classics already.

I kid!

THE BIRDS, DEAD AGAIN, FUNNY GAMES, THE SIXTH SENSE, THE SHINING, IT FOLLOWS, THE BABADOOK, A TALE OF TWO SISTERS, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, and fucking MARTYRS?!?!?!?

If you love horror films and you haven’t seen MARTYRS, then you don’t love horror films.

I love Jordan Peele more today than I did yesterday for some of those call outs.

Anyone else getting the itch for this one?

I was left uneasy watching GET OUT.  From that opening “Run, rabbit, Run Rabbit, run run run,” to the groundskeeper running full bore at our hero.  If Jordan pulls another impossible to predict masterpiece out of his hat he will have completely run a diametrical course from his promising comedy opener.

US comes to theaters March 14th, so not too long a wait here.

This poster really reminds me of INSIDE.

Til next time Kids
