Star Trek Discovery 2.2 FAQ
What’s it called?
“New Eden.”
Who’s responsible?
Teleplay is credited to “Dominion” creator Vaun Wilmott & Sean Cochran (writer the 2018 “Discovery” episode “Despite Yourself”).
What says CBSAA?
“A new signal appears, prompting Stamets’ emotional return to the mycelial network and leading Burnham, Pike and Owosekun to a pre-warp planet, where they face a complex ethical dilemma. Tilly’s overeagerness lands her in trouble but when the planet – and Discovery’s landing party – are threatened, her curiosity may be the one thing that can save them.”
How does it start?
“As a child I had what my mother called ‘nightmares,’” begins Mr. Spock.
New Eden? Does the young noted electronics researcher Dr. Sevrin turn up?
Oh, no, brother.
Is there a time jump in this episode?
No. The episode begins, essentially, with Burnham sharing with Pike what she discovered in Spock’s quarters.
Is it any good?

Is Tig Notaro back?
Not this week. But she returns in several future installments.
Can the Discovery still jump instantly from anyplace in the universe to any other place?
Yes. Before the title credits roll, the ship uses its spore drive to complete in an instant a trip that would take 150 years to complete using warp drive. Interestingly, Pike does not bother to have a conversation with Stamets before ordering its use.
Do we finally learn Number One’s real name?
Pike’s Enterprise first officer, played in future episodes by “Pepper Dennis” star Rebecca Romijn, does not appear in this episode.
Does Ethan Peck appear as Spock?
For the second episode in a row, he is heard but not seen.
I read that the Klingons are no longer bald because they’re no longer at war. True?
No Klingons appear in Thursday’s episode.
I hear the Bezos-like telepathic Talosians from the 1965 “Star Trek” pilot are back this season. Do they appear in the second episode? Is everyone subject to the Federation’s death penalty?
The Talosians do not appear this week.
How does this episode compare to the prior 16?
(REDACTED BY TALKBACKER)
The big news?
I thought Spock would be out among the stars dealing with the Red Angel, but we learn this week that is not the case.
What else is CBSAA not telling us?
Pike, not Burnham, appears to be the main character in this episode.
Has Stamets turned Culber into an Emergency Medical Hologram?
I don’t recall Culber appearing this week.
